onOne Software has released a version of its Essentials software plug-in for Apple's iPhoto image editing and management software. Essentials 2.1 for iPhoto includes tools from four of onOne's professional Photoshop plug-ins--PhotoTune 2.2, FocalPoint 1.0, PhotoFrame 3.1, and Genuine Fractals 5. The tools included in the iPhoto version of the plug-in allow users to correct color, apply selective focus effects, add frames and borders, and resize images.
Essentials 2.1 for iPhoto maintains a simple interface, in keeping with Apple's program. The plug-in's "Make It Better" tool lets users correct color, contrast, and brightness by selecting the best versions of an image in a series of side-by-side comparisons. The "Blur It" tool lets photographers move a "Focus Bug" around the image to make selective focus adjustments in a way that feels similar to manipulating a physical lens. There are more than 500 edges and frames to choose from in the "Frame It" tool, which can stack multiple frames for custom effects. To enlarge images up to 400 percent for large prints, users can apply the "Enlarge It" tool.
Essentials 2.1 for iPhoto is available for $59.95 from onOne's Web site and other retailers.
